Australian playwright YURI RYUNTYU: The Contemporary Australian Theatrical life is not yet multicultural. The Russian language does not exist in twentieth century Australian drama. The new millennium opens new horizons for multi-language theatrical performances around us. Australian citizen, Yuri Matthew Ryuntyu is only one of the playwrights who represent the legacy of Russian language in Australia’s drama. The general theme of his plays is the history of Russia: 1725-2009. He is only one person who represents Australia in the theatres of Russia. His works are already on Russian stages and have been performed since 1995. This site is an invitation for visitors to enjoy new theatrical experiences.

Australian writer, member of the press RADIO & TV and playwright - YURI MATTHEW RYUNTYU (06.27.1949) was born in KIZHI, ONEGA LAKE, Karelia, RUSSIA. Following his studies at the Academy of Science, he moved to Sydney (Australia: 1980) and worked, most notably, as a medico-biology scientist: 1981-1991: University of NSW, Sydney University, University of New England (Australia).

Ryuntyu’s ironic and often disillusioned perception of the state of affairs in Russia during and after the Communist occupation produced a body of work that is still at the forefront of twentieth-century Russian and Australian literature.
